Lifedrawing Gestures

Thought I'd put up a few 1 minute gestures from life drawing. These are the first I've done after reading Stanchfield and I'm finding it really fun! He makes life drawing a lot more exciting because the focus is now on character and play-acting instead of rigid plumb-lines and anatomy. As he reminds the reader in the book, we're drawing CARTOONS! Gosh, they're such great books...

Band Sketchbook

When doing gestures, I really love working to music. Especially the energy of a live band. So whenever I'm around a show, I bring my sketchbook. It's very helpful having the music to work with. Also, I'm almost done the second volume of the new Walt Stanchfield books and am trying to apply that to my drawings. I want to break away from the stiffness of straight anatomy and move on to caricatured action. Here are some recent ones along that vein...
