Kensington Market Pedestrian Sundays

In Toronto we go nuts with events in the city once the weather warms up. Today I hung out at Kensington Market, one of my favorite places to draw in the summer. I don't know how to describe it exactly... Kind of hippie-meet-urban-locavore. Very artsy and unpretentious. So on Sundays what they like to do is close the entire neighborhood from cars and everyone piles onto the street to shop, eat and watch busker performances. There's some sort of musical act on every corner. A Kid on guitar singing Pink Floyd. Tweens breakdancing in front of a coffee shop. Bike Pirates giving free tune-ups. A box of 16 mangoes for $10! Pretty much the best thing ever.

So here I sat on the curb to draw and MAN did my bottom hurt! I'm getting old!

Here's one of the shops with racks of vintage clothing. If you're ever in Toronto and dig vintage, the best place to go is Kensignton. Oh yeah and Ossington, but that's a bit more pricey.

These guys were awesome. I especially love the posse of smoking spanish men who stood behind them for a smoke. And the trumpeter who would always do solos with his legs splayed across the pavement. Good times.

For those outside of Toronto who are unfamiliar with Kensington Market, these pics from Flicker sum it up pretty well!

Yo-Yo Ma Lane

A bonus image for this week because I've been a bad Taby by not updating enough! This is with ink, done in the Toronto Music Garden.

Faces of Facebook

A favorite activity of mine is drawing from people's weird Facebook photos. Usually it's of people I don't know, but just so you know... if you happen to put up some weird/funny pictures of yourself, I'll probably come across it and turn it into an incredibly unflattering drawing! Cuz we all know that pretty people are PRETTY BORING!

In other news, you may not know that I have 2 other blogs. Yes, TWO. The first is Tabitha Draws Comics which is where I make myself accountable to YOU and actually turn all those silly little ideas into real live comics. The second is a newer endeavor called Tabitha Draws The Illusion of Life. Yes, people. THAT Illusion of Life. Over 300 pages. It's like the Julie & Julia of Animation. Wish me luck. I'll need it.
