Familiar Faces

Sometimes when you don't know what to draw, it's fun to flip through the internet for inspiration. All of these were done completely freehand with the intention of just getting the line as fluid as possible. Pure silliness.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is super pretty.

Dick Van Dyke was my childhood crush.

Emily Haines has a very sharp jaw.

Goldie Hawn has always terrified me.

Robert Plant and his coveted coiffure.

Elizabeth May is so fun to draw.

Jerry Beck is a living cartoon!

Hodgepodge

Here's a bunch of crazy miscellaneous drawings from around town. No real logic!

Girl sitting at the steps of the Lululemon clothing store in Yorkville, waiting for their free weekly fitness class to start.

Another woman on a bench further down, waiting for the same class. Somehow they all knew to bring runners in anticipation of the hour-long torture session that was to come. Being my first time there, I wore my Birks expecting a Yoga class. I was sooo wrong.

I think Yorkville would be a good place to go drawing soon. It's like a whole other world with everyone bragging about their weekend holidays to places like Cuba and the Mayan Riviera. Maybe I'll do a whole post on that sometime. During TIFF, perhaps? Yeah!

More TTC drawings.

Best couple. Guy was grumpy that I was drawing him, girl was laughing at him to just chill out.

Someone brought a dog into the Subway and he was rolling around, playing with a ball.

Reading on the long trip home.

Large torso and skinny jeans.

Bow-legged.

Oh yeah, and I went to a cottage. Here's the view from my seat at the campfire, overlooking the lake.

Working Hard, Or Hardly Working?

Been up to a lot of stuff lately so I haven't been treatin y'all right over here on the blog. To make up for it I drew you a comic about cocktails and clubbing girls to start off this work week in style.

Everything in this comic is 200% true. God, I love clubbing girls.

Friday Inspiration

BASIC PRINCIPLES

Animation is not

the art of Drawings-that-move

but rather

the art of Movements-that-are-drawn.

*

What happens BETWEEN each frame

is more important than

what happens ON each frame.

*

Therefore

ANIMATION

is the art of manipulating

the invisible interstices between frames.

Mixed Bag

I've been doing quite a bit of writing over the past few weeks, so I this means I haven't had any marathon drawing sessions in a while. Instead, I've collected an assortment of sketches from around town.

As a Birthday present, I brought my Mom to see Alice in Wonderland at the Four Seasons Centre. Luckily I came up with this idea early enough to grab some good tickets. The show was completely sold out through the entire run and smashed box office records for the National Ballet of Canada.

Before every show there's a pre-performance talk in the lobby. As the speaker eloquently described Alice's youthful curiosity I spotted this little girl playfully examining some souvenirs.

Later I saw this lady strut by with a very swooshy dress.

These two ladies were grabbing a drink before the show.

I can't remember exactly who the speaker was, but he certainly had a dancer's physique.

Another cluster of ladies hanging around before the show.

On an entirely different day I was riding my bike and got thirsty, so I stopped by the Drake patio for a lemonade.

The thing about the Drake is it sometimes attracts a clubby sort of crowd. But if you're there in the afternoon on a weekday the patio is pretty quiet except for the odd hotel guest and some waitstaff on break. This, in my opinion, is the best time to go.

But maybe sometime it would be hilarious to draw some clubby people. Them and their Grey Goose martinis. Reaching out of my comfort zone, perhaps?

On an unrelated note, let's just end all of this with another picture from the subway system. I love to draw in the TTC. Everyone's so grumpy and adorable.
